How To Kill Crabgrass

!: How To Kill Crabgrass

Anybody who has ever cared for a lawn knows about crabgrass. It's that weed that keeps popping up and never seems to go away. It is ugly; it is bad for your lawn; and we all hate it. The question which we are always trying to answer, therefore, is how to get rid of this ugly weed once and for all. Well folks, here are a few tips to help you make your lawn finally be free of crabgrass.

Crabgrass is a warm-season annual weed, meaning it gets reproduced by seeds. The best way to get that crabgrass-free lawn is to prevent it from ever showing up in your lawn. The best way to achieve this is by applying pre-emergent herbicides to your lawn at the right time.

In order to know the best time to apply the pre-emergent herbicides, it is vital to know the life cycle of crabgrass. When the top two to three inches of topsoil reach about sixty degrees Fahrenheit, the crabgrass seeds will first germinate. Crabgrass will then produce seeds for the purpose of reproduction from mid-summer till autumn. The crabgrass grows, and people get upset, but the crabgrass does not care. The crabgrass will then appear to get killed by the autumn frost, but this is not the case. The crabgrass is still very much alive despite the fact that the plant died. The seeds are still alive and getting ready for its next attack.

This is where the pre-emergent herbicides come into play. The pre-emergent herbicides basically spread a cover over the topsoil preventing any crabgrass from showing its ugly face. It is extremely important not to practice core aeration after the pre-emergent herbicides have been spread, since this would ruin the cover which the pre-emergent herbicides had created, giving the crabgrass an entry point to the surface of your lawn. Therefore, you should be careful to aerate your lawn before you put down the pre-emergent herbicides. One important thing to keep in mind is that pre-emergent herbicides kill the crabgrass before the seedlings emerge. Therefore, the pre-emergent herbicides should be applied before the seedlings emerge but not too far in advance of the germination.

There are many different types of pre-emergent herbicides. The differences in each pre-emergent herbicide are often related to how concentrated they are, how long they last, and how effective they will be. It is probably a good idea to speak to a local landscaper before applying pre-emergent herbicides to your lawn, because they should know when is the best time to apply the pre-emergent herbicide in your particular area. One very good pre-emergent herbicide that I will mention is Dimension. Dimension is safe to use on almost all lawns, and provides long-lasting protection from crabgrass. This is a very positive thing since not all crabgrass germinates at the same time. Some will germinate later. That is where the long-lasting protection of Dimension comes into play. It will also stop the crabgrass's late bloomers from emerging in your lawn. Another positive thing about Dimension is that it also acts as a post-emergent herbicide. This, as it implies, means that it will also kill crabgrass after it has emerged. Post-emergent herbicides are also effective, but it clearly makes more sense to prevent the crabgrass form ever showing its face, than waiting until it's ruining your lawn before taking action.

It is important to water your grass after you apply pre-emergent herbicides. This is because the water activates the active ingredients in pre--emergent herbicides. Additional applications of pre-emergent herbicides are also beneficial, because not all crabgrass germinates at the same time. These later applications will kill the crabgrass's late bloomers. It is also important to follow the label directions of whichever pre-emergent herbicide you are using. Do not aerate your lawn or dethatch your lawn after you apply pre-emergent herbicides, and do not apply pre-emergent herbicides on freshly laid sod.
Pre-emergent herbicides are definitely the best way to get rid of unwanted and ugly crabgrass, but the best way to prevent crabgrass from even being an issue is by having a healthy lawn. There are a number of things you can do to ensure that your lawn is healthy.

The most important thing is to fertilize your lawn adequately and at the right time. The best time to heavily fertilize is in the autumn. By autumn, the frosts will probably have killed the crabgrass, thus making it a perfect time to fertilize. Another way to prevent crabgrass is by watering your lawn less frequently but more deeply. This way the water will go deeper than the crabgrass grows, since crabgrass is an extremely shallow weed. One more thing is to mow high, meaning that your grass should be about two or three inches high. This will cause your grass to block light from reaching the crabgrass.

Upgrade From a Simple Cordless Leaf Blower to a Garden Blower Vac

!: Upgrade From a Simple Cordless Leaf Blower to a Garden Blower Vac

Are you into gardening and stuff? Or are you just some regular guy or girl who just needs to get rid of those messy leaves that are starting to pile up in your yard? Either way, you will still have to make use of different cleaning and sweeping tools. So if you haven't got one yet, maybe it's time for you to think about it and start checking those necessary equipment out online or in nearby stores.

However, if you already have one tool that you've been using for a long time, say, a cordless leaf blower, you might want to consider upgrading or changing into something else that's more useful and more convenient. There are other gardening tools that have far more advanced features and benefits than your average leaf blower. One example is the garden blower vac.

This tool, the garden blower vac, is what some call a combination of or a crossbreed between a leaf blower and a vacuum cleaner. Others would call it the leaf blower with a twist. Indeed, this blower-slash-vacuum tool is really something. However, the important question is if it really is that better and more effective than your leaf blower.

Leaf blowers are known to be very much efficient in blowing those dead leaves and dirt and piling them up together so that you can easily pick them up afterwards and place in a trash bin or bag. The equipment has a long nose or nozzle where air with greater strength and speed comes out. This is quite a great tool especially the cordless type. Yet, it's not really that convenient compared to garden blower vacs.

The blower/vacuum product saves you the burden of picking up those dead leaves after you have gathered them in a certain area and placing them in a garbage bag or container for disposal. With its sucking capabilities similar to that of a vacuum cleaner, the amount of time and energy you normally spend while doing the task mentioned earlier is being lessened. Therefore, you'll have more time and energy to do other important things.

Another nice thing about garden blower vacs is the easy switching between the blower and vacuum mode. If you think you need to remove first some parts or install additional ones before you can use the product as a vacuum or as a blower, then you're wrong. It's really just a switch away, so easy and so convenient.

Moreover, these blower vacs are available in electric and gas or petrol powered types. This allows you to choose which kind is best for your needs. Known brands or models that you can check out are Black and Decker, Flymo, Ryobi and others.

Finding the Best Garden Blower Vac

!: Finding the Best Garden Blower Vac

Why should you choose a garden blower vac instead of a regular leaf blower? Cleaning up the yard can be a tiring and take up a lot of time, particularly when the leaves begin to fall. Raking or using a conventional leaf blower can take a long time, while a garden blower vac can make things a lot easier. But which one should you get, and is it really worth it? Let's take a look at some of the benefits of a good leaf blower vacuum and how to buy the right one.

Leaf vacuums work a lot like indoor vacuums, but they have a lot more power and are more specialized. They help remove all debris and dead leaves, collecting them into just one container. After you're done, you can empty the container onto your compost pile and turn those dead leaves into garden fertilizer! This is an efficient and effective way of getting an attractive looking, clean garden that takes a lot less time than a rake or broom. While your garden blower vac will require power, the reduction in the amount of time required to clean your yard means it won't really use all that much. Jobs will get done faster and you'll have more time to move onto something else.

A garden blower vac is a particularly good idea for people who have disabilities or age related mobility problems. It can make the difference between having to rely on others to clean and maintain your garden and being able to do it yourself. That can be a big difference for many of us. Too many people assume that everyone is in good enough physical condition to do their own gardening, when many of us need to save up our time and energy for what is no longer a simple task. If you fall into this category, a leaf blower vacuum could be a real help.

Of course, you'll pay more for a garden blower vac than you would for a conventional leaf blower, and a great deal more than you would for a plain old rake. It all comes down to whether you value your time or the investment in the leaf blower more. If time is the biggest consideration, this is the machine for you, making automatic cleanup much easier than a conventional blower. Just suck the leaves up and dispose of them properly.

Make sure you buy a good leaf vacuum, of course. That means taking some time to look at all the options available on the market, and comparing not just their prices and features, but the reputation of each one. Take the time to check out a few garden blower reviews to find out if a particular model is known for problems or short lifespan. That'll help you decide which garden blower vac is right for your particular situation. Never just buy the cheapest model on the market - it's a sure way to lose money in the long run. A good leaf blower vacuum will serve you for many years to come and make your job a whole lot easier.

Top 10 Tips For Choosing a Leaf Blower

!: Top 10 Tips For Choosing a Leaf Blower

There are a lot of different factors that are involved in the choice of a leaf blower. A lot of these are just about personal choice and preference. However, you need to try and match the machine to the things that you want to do and the amount of work that has to be done. Here are ten tips that should get you thinking in the correct way:

Choose a walk behind leaf blower when you have a lot of work to do, especially if you live in a wooded area and have a lot of land to clear, where the leaves build up to a depth. Use a backpack blower when you have a fairly large area with quite a lot of leaves to clear. Backpack leaf blowers are powerful, but comfortable and easy to operate due to their design. You can use them for longer periods of time without getting as tired. Select a hand held blower for light to moderate leaf blowing where the yard is a reasonable size and you don't have to use the machine for long periods of time. Hand held machines are quick and easy to use, but can get heavy after using them for a while. Use a gas powered machine where you need a lot of blowing power and don't mind something that is relatively heavy. Gas blowers come is various engine sizes to suit your power needs. Choose an electric machine for small yards and light leaf blowing. Electric machines use a power cord and that can limit the distance that you can reach. Use a battery blower for very light work and where you only need to work for about 20 minutes. Some come with two batteries which will increase the usage time. The batteries are rechargeable. Choose a blower with a vacuum feature if you want to collect and bag the leaves rather than just blowing them out of the way. Some machines also have a mulching feature that will shred the leaves and compress them to take up less space. Select a fast air speed if you want to break up clumps of wet leaves and move larger objects. The air speed is measured in MPH and should be taken at the end of the tube. Look at machines that move a lot of air volume if you need to vacuum heavy, wet and large leaves You can check this out by looking at the measurements in cubic feet per minute or CFM. Use an electric blower if you need to have one that is relatively quiet. Electric blowers are also light.

After you have decided on the type of machine that you want to buy you should take a look at as many reviews as you can so that you can get the most reliable and cost effective solution.

Toro 51467 Weed Eater Complete Review

!: Toro 51467 Weed Eater Complete Review

A few weeks ago I was at a garage sale with my parents. I am always on the look out for cheap lawn and landscape equipment that I can use for my lawn business or review on my blog. I noticed a Toro 51467 cordless weed eater on sale. I had never used this model and wanted to give it a try, so I bought it.

The trimmer came with the original box and owner's manual. It looked to be fairly new and I thought that the price was fair at . I was excited to go try it out to see how the trimmer would compare to other battery powered trimmers I had used in the past.

Since my parents house was close by and needed to be mowed I decided to try it out there first. The unit was already assembled and the people at the garage sale told me it was fully charged, so I was ready to go. After getting it running, the first thing I noticed was that it was a little louder than other battery powered weed eaters I had used. It wasn't too loud, but definitely more noisy than the others.

I am normally able to finish trimming and edging my parents lawn in under 15 minutes with my gas powered, commercial grade trimmer. I was curious to see how long it would take me with the Toro weed eater. Also, I wanted to find out if I could get it done on one battery charge.

Although the trimmer was a little bit louder, it had a little more power than the other battery powered units. However, the cutting area wasn't very large so the trimming was taking me longer than usual. The company's description stated that the cutting swath was 8 inches, but I thought that was being generous. I was able to finish trimming and edging the lawn in just under 25 minutes. And, the battery lasted the duration.

I found trying to edge with the weed eater a bit awkward. Due to the short string and the guard, it was pretty tough to see what I was doing. Maybe if I used the trimmer for a longer period of time, I would get used to it.

Overall, I thought the trimmer was good for the price. Most of the other battery powered trimmers cost around 0 and the Toro weed eater only cost about half that. The unit is not intended for heavy trimming and edging, but works well for normal lawn use.
